There are two VirtualUnknown products. The old product, is VUMicro 3.11. The new product being beta-tested this spring is VUMIE 2012. Here is how to tell the difference:
1. If the software splash screen that flashes during software startup says VUMIE 2012, you have VUMIE 2012.
2. If the software is running on a Mac or a Linux machine, you have VUMIE 2012.
3. If you can re-scale the size of the window with the virtual lab scene, you have VUMIE 2012.
4. If there is a white button with a red cross above the lab scene, you have VUMIE 2012.
5. If the lab scene only has two incubators, a refrigerator, a Bunsen burner, and a microscope [nothing else!], you have VUMIE 2012.
6. If your campus is beta-testing for us this semester and you got a special email with a link to take you to a special webpage with only two links - one for VUMIE for Mac and the other VUMIE for Windows - you have VUMIE 2012.
To know which version of either software you have installed, click on "Help", then "About VUMIE" and the version number and other information (serial number, etc.) will be displayed. By now you should have VUMIE 2012 4.0 or higher.
So, know which software your school is using and be sure to install the right product!
